Just getting into Crypto

Hi! I know uneducated people like myself probably stop in here and ask all the time, whats a good starting point for buying crypto? I know ill never get into something good like bitcoin, but I would like to buy a few coins, and just let them sit for a couple of years, like a low interest CD. (Thats the only thing I could think to relate too, as I am completely uneducated on the ways of finance outside of normal stuffs)

So yeah, what are yall buying to hold on too? Does yhis even work like that? Would it benefit me to buy some into bitcoin at small purchase intervals, like $100 or less. Or to buy lots of coins from different "suppliers". Im not trying to get rich!
